We care for Sustainability

During the project phase 2019/2020 the focus was to build up sustainable structures and more help for self-help. This is be done by:

- Greater involvement of teachers in the course of the investigations (Train the Teacher). Teachers are trained in such a way that they can carry out the near and distance tests independently.

- The ophthalmological examination material is handed over to the monastic schools and written instructions were given so that the examinations can be continued by the trained staff from June on when the new school season will start.

- Simplification of the examinations and renunciation of the use of expensive technical equipment. By dispensing with expensive and sensitive equipment such as an autorefractometer, the examination is simplified and made possible under normal school conditions.

- Permanent presence of the German Eyesight Project by the two project assistants who coordinate the glasses requirements of the schools beginning with the new school year (June 2020) and accompany teachers and students to the doctor's and optician's appointments.

- Support of the local handicraft and local services for spectacle adjustments and medical examinations. Close-up and distance tests are only used to determine the children's visual impairment, without further identifying it. This will only be done by the pediatric eye specialist or the local optician.
